KWIA District 14 Representative Sheryl grew up on a dairy, crop farm in Eastern Pennsylvania. She graduated from Eastern Mennonite College with a BS in Social Work. Sheryl and her husband came to Kentucky for three months in 1991 volunteering for the summer with Mennonite Central Committee, they never left and are still here. In 1998 the Longs bought their micro farm, 53 acres of steep mountain property. With their seven children the Longs have always sought to make good use of their steep mountain property raising fruits, vegetables, bees, meat goats, chickens turkeys and experimenting making maple syrup. Several years ago they started a market garden, producing maple syrup and baked goods for sale at local Farmer’s Markets. Her husband is the Executive Director of HOMES, Inc. a nonprofit organization working on affordable housing issues.
